Welcome to Saint Stephen Lutheran Church!

You made it!  You found a place with new possibilities, new opportunities, and new ways to love God and to love your neighbor.  We’re glad you found us. St Stephen Lutheran is a community of Jesus people who believe that God calls upon us to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God-in our world, our communities, and our neighborhoods.   Join us for worship and fellowship.  Say hello to the pastor.  Make a new acquaintance. Come join us to do, love, and walk in God's Way.

What is good?

Picture
St Stephen Lutheran finds its missional and strategic direction in the prophet Micah:

[The LORD] has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and the love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6v8 NRSV).

Everything we do and believe at St Stephen as a church can be categorized under these three directions:

Do Justice
Through evangelism, social ministry, and stewardship, St Stephen Lutheran reaches out and advocates God’s justice in our communities and world—for the poor, marginalized, oppressed, excluded, and lost.

Love Mercy
Through our parish life and mutual ministry, St Stephen helps people make connections and fosters healthy and faith-filled relationships among our community—to share our resources, support one another, and care for the common good.

Walk Humbly
Our journey of faith as a community of Jesus people begins and ends with our worship and prayer life, and is fueled and supported through faith formation opportunities that meet at the intersection between God’s word and our world.

Sacred Citrus / an orange on the Lord's Table/

Picture
Recalling Jesus’ practice of open table fellowship, we place an orange on the Lord's Table in the hope that one day every community of faith will welcome people of every race, economic status, gender and sexual orientation, and special ability.

This practice is inspired by Rabbi Susannah Heschel who, in the early 80's began the tradition of putting an orange on her Passover Seder plate to represent the fullness of Judaism when LGBTQ persons were truly welcome in the community of God’s people.
